Dr. Jason Edward ‘Jay’ Dayan, 86, of Longboat Key, died April 28.
Born Aug. 6, 1923, in Newburgh, N.Y., he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Yale University and went on to hold leadership positions in the chemical industry. Dr. Dayan retired from BASF as director of technology.
Dr. Dayan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rhoda; daughters Susie, of Rhode Island, and Liz, of Silver Spring, Md.; son, Andy, of Syracuse, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. today at Temple Beth Israel, 567 Bay Isles Road. Interment will follow at Temple Beth Shalom Cemetery, in Sarasota.
