Longbeach condominium association president Bob Appel sent an e-mail to condominium residents Wednesday, April 14 informing them the town could begin a sand project for their area as soon as Friday.
Appel was informed by town staff that the project could begin as soon as Friday, April 15 and be complete by May 1 before sea turtle nesting season begins.
About 450 truckloads of sand will continuously be dumping sand from Longbeach’s Periwinkle condominium building near North Shore Road south to the Broadway beach access.
The sand is being placed there until the town can start its beach project in November 2011.
Town Manager Bruce St. Denis will ask the Town Commission to fund the $225,000 project at its regular workshop at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15.
Commissioner Gene Jaleski, also a Longbeach condominium owner, sent an e-mail to St. Denis today praising his work.
Wrote Jaleski: “Once again you have done the impossible and in record time. I know of at least 200 residents at Longbeach condominiums who are happy property owners.”
