Longboat Key District 5 Commissioner Robert Siekmann officially resigned Thursday, March 24, just hours before the Town Commission’s 1 p.m. regular workshop began.
Siekmann was in his third term and final year as a commissioner and was irked that he had not been given the opportunity to become mayor at Monday night’s statutory meeting.
Siekmann, whose Land’s End home is for sale, told the Longboat Observer Tuesday he was considering resigning to allow the commission to develop an agenda and budget with a District 5 commissioner that would be involved in the process for the entire year.
The Town Commission has 30 days to appoint someone to the District 5 seat.
Mayor Jim Brown said the commission would make a District 5 appointment at its Monday, April 4 regular meeting.
Land’s End resident Pat Zunz, who is currently a Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board member and the past chairman of the Longboat Key Zoning Board of Adjustment, is considered the top candidate to replace Siekmann.
