Early voting numbers are down from last year

The town of Longboat Key’s early voting numbers are down when compared to last year’s election.
In Sarasota County, 739 registered voters took advantage of early voting, compared to 791 early voting ballots cast in March 2012. In the Manatee County portion of the island, 188 registered voters cast early voting ballots, compared to 184 early voting ballots cast in March 2012.
Early voting concluded Friday, March 8 and voting resumes 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the town’s two polling stations. Manatee County voters will cast ballots at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Sarasota County voters will cast their ballots at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
