The town’s general employees are currently voting on whether to form a union through the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.
The mail vote began Feb. 15 and closes March 6. The Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) will tally votes March 7.
A certified petition filed with the PERC last September showed that 16 out of 42 eligible general employees signed union interest statements.
Unionization would freeze benefits and pensions for general employees, forcing town staff to negotiate changes with them.
