Longboat Key Public Works Director Juan Florensa has selected Don Waldroup as Team Member of the Year in the Public Works Department.
The achievement is recognized by Waldroup’s peers. Only non-management staff members within the department vote each year on the designation.
Waldroup, a service worker in the parks division of the department, began working for the town in 1990 as a service worker who was instrumental in the initial development and landscaping of Joan M. Durante Park.
Waldroup’s concrete-finishing skills have allowed him to build, among other things, the multipurpose concrete court at Bayfront Park and, more recently, the Veterans Memorial monument and plaque at Bicentennial Park placed in November 2008.
Florensa said Waldroup exemplifies the department’s “Whatever It Takes” motto, which is emblazoned on the shirts of his employees.
Waldroup, a U.S. Army and Vietnam War veteran, is married to Town Hall receptionist Eva Waldroup.
