Firefighters from Longboat Key, Sarasota County and West Manatee responded to a fire Tuesday afternoon in a building at Seaplace condominium.
First responders reported smoke in the area of a three-story building, prompting a second alarm for manpower.
Crews laddered the building while searching and evacuating the three floors. Firefighters determined that the fire came from an air-conditioning unit and opened up the roof to ensure that the fire didn’t extend into the building. After opening the roof, they determined that the fire was contained to the air-conditioning unit.
A total of 20 firefighters responded to the scene.
