The town of Longboat Key has hired Tampa-based Tinsdale-Oliver & Associates to perform a peak season traffic count and analysis data island-wide for the benefit of the Planning, Zoning and Building Department.
The town also hired Tinsdale-Oliver & Associates to perform a traffic analysis in regard to the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s Islandside renovation-and-expansion project.
Bill Oliver, president of Tinsdale-Oliver & Associates, reported in October that if the club’s Islandside project were built, the town would meet its prescribed levels of traffic service at peak hours and in peak season.
But the data being performed for the town at a cost of $9,200 has nothing to do with the club’s project.
Planning, Zoning and Building Director Monica Simpson said the updated traffic data would be used as an analysis of traffic Key-wide when calculating projects that come before the town.
Tinsdale-Oliver & Associates has traffic counters set up across Gulf of Mexico Drive on the north and south ends and in the middle of the Key. The three-week traffic analysis is expected to be complete at the end of the week.

- This is an excellent idea, to capture data during "peak" season, and will allow fact to replace belief when testimony is given before the P&Z. A current 'base line data set' benefits all parties seeking to come before the board. One quantified set of data should obviate the need for hours of "anecdotal opinion" disguised as factual testimony. Process can remain fair, but sped up to the benefit of all.
