Traffic snarled yesterday on the south end of Longboat Key as officials responded to five emergency calls at the same time.
In one incident, Longboat Key Fire Rescue responded to a fire on the second floor of a building at Seaplace condominium, located in the 1900 and 2000 blocks of Gulf of Mexico Drive. The fire was apparently caused by an electrical connection in a closet where a hot-water heater was stored. The fire spread into the walls of the unit and was contained within the closet.
The other calls were medical emergencies, consisting of an unconscious person, stroke, fall and a respiratory-related incident. The Sarasota County Fire Department and West Manatee Fire Rescue assisted with calls.
