The Sarasota Yacht Club Charitable Foundation will host the Commodore’s Dinner Reception at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, for Jose Miguel Diaz Escrich, vice president of the Cuban Sailing Federation and commodore of the Hemingway International Yacht Club in Havana. The reception will take place as Sarasota Yacht Club prepares to be the official U.S. host for the U.S.-Cuba Regatta planned for May 16.
Escrich will discuss the latest plans for the offshore regatta, which is subject to U.S. government approval.
“Our two nations have a rich history of sailing competition,” said Sarasota Yacht Club Commodore Kay Goodman in a prepared statement. “We are proud to be working to revive this annual international competition, which began back in the 1930s.”
The reception will take place in Sarasota Yacht Club’s temporary tent facility, 1100 John Ringling Blvd., Sarasota. Tickets are $45. The event is open to the public. For reservations, call 365-4191 or go to syccharitablefoundation.org.
