Longboat Key Town attorney is heading to Venice

Longboat Key town attorney Dave Persson was named the new attorney for the city of Venice Tuesday afternoon.
Persson resigned in December after more than 22 years of service as Longboat Key’s town attorney.
While Persson has agreed to stay on as the town’s attorney through June, he’s hoping to make the transition to Venice in March.
Persson was a list of five finalists for the Venice vacancy and was chosen late Tuesday afternoon by the Venice City Council through a ranking system used to decide the new attorney.
In an email to the Longboat Key Town Commission on Tuesday afternoon, Persson wrote:
“I just wanted to let you know that I have been selected as the next city attorney in Venice. The transition should begin in March, but Bob Anderson, the current retiring city attorney, has agreed to stay longer if necessary to make this transition as smooth as possible for both municipalities. I will be coordinating this transition with you, Dave Bullock, and Venice. I look forward to the challenges ahead. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.”
The Longboat Key Town Commission will review a request for proposals next month in its quest to find its new town attorney.
