WEEKEND BEST BET: Noah Waddell in Concert

Noah Waddell started playing the piano at age 7 and has already amassed several accolades, including first prize in the Justine Lebaron Young Artist Competition and first place in his age division at the Southwest Florida Jillian Prescott Music Awards. He uses his gift for healing purposes, playing weekly in the lobby at Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers. This weekend, he’ll play classical and impressionist pieces by Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Debussy, among others.
The performance starts at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive. Tickets are $20. Contact Pat Joyner at 383-6491.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
