Town to participate in hazardous waste collection

The town will participate in the Annual Island Community Household Hazardous Waste and E-Scrap Collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Coquina Beach Gulfside parking lot.
Island residents and small businesses can dispose of household hazardous and electronic wastes such as old paint, computer components and TV sets for free.
The event is organized by Manatee County in conjunction with the island communities of Longboat Key, Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach.
Small businesses must call 798-6761 prior to the collection date for specific instructions.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
