The U.S. Census Bureau will hold jobs testing in January and February on Longboat and St. Armands keys.
Testing will take place at 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 6, 13 and Jan. 27, and at 2 p.m., Mondays, Feb. 1, 8 and 22, in the second-floor community room at Longboat Island Chapel, 6200 Gulf of Mexico Drive.
SunTrust Bank, 510 Bay Isles Road, will hold testing at 1:30 p.m., Fridays, in the second-floor community room.
St. Armands Key Lutheran Church, 40 N. Adams Drive, will hold testing at 1:30 p.m. Thursdays, in Classroom 2 of the Education Building.
Arrive 15 minutes early with your driver’s license and Social Security card or current passport. Veterans should bring a copy of their DD-214 to claim veteran preference. Plan to spend two to two-and-a-half hours testing and filling out forms. Jobs pay a minimum of $12.75 per hour.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
