Edith Anne Welch, 73, of Longboat Key and Falmouth, Mass. and formerly of Boston, died Dec. 20.
Born in 1936, in Lawrence, Mass., Mrs. Welch grew up in Andover, Mass. and graduated from Boston University. She worked as a residential real-estate broker in Newton, Mass.
Mrs. Welch was a member of Cedars Tennis & Fitness Club, the Longboat Key Club and Resort, the Harvard Clubs of Boston and Sarasota, Woods Hole Golf Club, in Falmouth, the Longwood Cricket Club, in Chestnut Hill, Mass., and the Menauhant, in East Falmouth, Mass.
Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Welch Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Maheras, of Brookline, Mass.; sons Peter, of Swampscott, Mass., and B. Charles, of Northampton, Mass.; brothers Gil, Jim and David Bamford; sisters Marian Smith, Jacqueline Moran and Roberta Banan; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Fessenden School, 250 Waltham St., West Newton, Mass. 02465, or the Dana Hall School, 45 Dana Road, Wellesley, Mass. 02482.

Youth sailors descend on City Island

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
