Identity issue 4:17 p.m. — 5400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. The former city editor of the Longboat Observer reported that a man who identified himself as the city editor called a Longboat Key supermarket to ask about the status of a development project. The supermarket manager who talked to the man said the man on the other end of the phone was rude and that he had to hang up on the man. N.B. It will be much harder for the rude male caller to impersonate our new female city editor, Robin Hartill.

'Extreme Couponing': The Longboat Key edition 3:40 p.m. — 6700 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police that two daily newspapers delivered to a box near his condominium no longer come with extra clip-out coupons and told police he believes that someone has been stealing the coupons and leaving the newspapers inside. The man credited the possible theft to a recent TV series glamorizing the use of coupons.

Night lights 9:31 p.m. — 700 block of St. Judes Drive North. Code Enforcement. A woman reported that a neighbor’s light was shining too brightly into her bedroom at night, which caused her not to be able to see the sunrise. The neighbor unscrewed the bulb and promised to dim the light.

Goggle ogle 3:08 p.m. — 5200 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A woman reported that a suspicious looking man approached a nearby condominium unit door and took a pair of goggles that was near the door. The woman confronted the man about his actions, and he returned the goggles and fled the area.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
