10:18 a.m. — 1620 GMD. Suspicious Person. Police saw a silver Nissan enter The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort property and followed the driver into the abandoned resort. The man told police he had parked there to go to the beach. He was advised the property was not open to the public and given directions to several nearby beach accesses on Longboat Key.
Situation under control
2:30 p.m. — Off the Key. Fire. Police responded to a structure fire in Bradenton Beach, but their assistance was canceled prior to arrival.
5:24 p.m. — 2400 block of GMD. Public Service. A woman reported accidentally locking her 9-month-old daughter in her car. Longboat Key Fire Rescue broke the front passenger window and removed the child, who was not in distress. The child was locked in the car for five minutes.
12:46 a.m. — 5800 block of GMD. Disturbance. A woman told police she brought a Polish man who spoke little English to her home from Texas to paint her house. She told police the Polish man began to call her names, and she didn’t appreciate his attitude. They both agreed to go to their separate rooms and stay away from each other until the man flew back to Texas.
10:01 a.m. — Intersection of GMD and Bayview Drive. Suspicious Vehicle. A woman reported a man was taking cans from recycle bins on the side of the road. Police observed a man taking cans and placing them in a white Jeep. The man told police he was unemployed and surviving on the scrap metal left on the side of the road. The man wasn’t violating any codes, and no further action was taken.
Stay off my lawn
11:13 a.m. — 700 block of Penfield Street. Vandalism. A man reported construction vehicles driving on his grass and damaging his grass and sprinklers. The crew offered to put up a barrier where the grass meets the street. No further action was taken.
Inappropriate beach behavior
12:52 p.m. — Beer Can Island. Suspicious Person. A frequent beachgoer reported a man on Beer Can Island acting inappropriately and exposing himself in some bushes. The woman told police she frequently sees the man, who often wears a visor and white tennis shoes, in the bushes while she walks on the beach. Police couldn’t locate the suspect and are urging anyone who sees him to contact police.
1:36 p.m. — 1200 block of GMD. Fire. Police and Longboat Key Fire Rescue responded to a stove fire that was extinguished before police arrived.
8:56 p.m. — 500 block of Gulf Bay Road. Noise Disturbance. A woman called to report a loud party at a neighbor’s house. Police approached the owner of the house, who explained he was having a party before he left for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan. Police asked those in attendance to keep the noise down.

A fitting tribute
A day after receiving an Ageless Creativity Award from the Ringling College/Longboat Key Center for the Arts in honor of their late father, Ed Brickman, daughter Carol Diamant and son Eli Brickman held a celebration of life service Saturday.
