Although its cakes are still the heart of the business, owner Ron Zammit’s son, Nathan, has whipped up cupcakes that are just as tasty. Music reivew: Sarasota Orchestra: Masterworks ‘Seeing Music in Fantasy’

The title of Sunday’s Masterworks concert with the Sarasota Orchestra was “Seeing Music in Fantasy.” And, although the title obviously referred to the fantastical, romantic music of Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto No. 3) and Berlioz (“Symphonie fantastique”), the actual performance was more like “Seeing Music in Perfection.”

Robert de Warren’s version of “The Nutcracker” is quite lovely, indeed, and kudos to the Sarasota Ballet for reviving the holiday classic this season. There’s nothing quite like a growing Christmas tree to get you into the spirit.

Approximately 250 people hit the water Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 21, for Sailfest. The regatta, Sarasota Youth Sailing's biggest fundraiser of the year, included four classes of competition — Optimus, 420, Laser and Multi-hull — and a barbecue feast. -
Book club sunsets for the season

The Sunset Beach Book Club, in its 10th year, ended this season with a luncheon and discussion of the book “Gone Girl,” by Gillian Flynn, April 18, at Lazy Lobster. Discussion moderator was Ricki Carroll. Together, the group read five books this season.
