Doug and Carol Burns moved into their renovated home in March 2011, in Indian Beach. The couple, originally from Dallas, Texas, had been drawn over and over again to Sarasota during their travels and finally decided to buy a home in 2006. The home they bought was built in 1954, and they loved its modern style and beautiful view of Sarasota Bay.
Over the next few years, the couple worked with Youbar builders to bring their home up to code with new electric, plumbing, air conditioning and hurricane glass. The couple had walls knocked down to make the house feel more open and so they were able to view Sarasota Bay from the kitchen, sun room, media room and living room.
The couple describes their style as soft contemporary with a love for modern architecture. They hope to stay forever in the home and made sure to think ahead by making the home handicap accessible with large doorways and walk-in features in their master bathroom. One of the most unique features is the nine concrete slabs featuring different quotes they like, which are placed around the exterior of the home.
