More than 400 Little Leaguers were eager to get the Manatee County Cal Ripken Little League Baseball spring season under way March 6 after pouring rain kept them from enjoying their Opening Day celebration Feb. 27. Players from the league's 37 different teams hit the ballpark for their season-openers. For some, it was a chance to break out their bats and gloves that had been tucked away. For others, it was their first time playing baseball.
