The Lakewood Ranch High swim team scored a combined 763 points to capture the Class 2A-District 9 title Oct. 30 at The Selby Aquatics Center in Sarasota.
The Lady Mustangs scored 421 points to win the girls district title while the boys finished second behind Osceola with 342 points.
Lakewood advanced 17 swimmers and five alternates to Friday's Class 2A-Region 3 meet at North Shore Pool in St. Petersburg.
Leading the way for the Lady Mustangs was Ashley Reid, who won two individual events, including the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, and also swam the leadoff leg of the victorious 200 medley relay and the anchor leg of the 400 freestyle relay, which finished second.
Joining Reid on the 200 medley relay were Rebekah Baker, Raegan Sauer and Shannon McCarthy. Katherine Hochadel joined Baker, McCarthy and Reid on the 400 relay team. McCarthy also captured individual honors in the 50 freestyle, beating Sauer to the wall by 11 tenths of a second.
Powering the boys team was Johnny Silvers, who won two individual events and two relays, including the 200 and 500 freestyles, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Joining Silvers on the 200 and 400 relays were Lucas Thompson, James Cascone and Matt Polk. Thompson also captured an individual title in the 50 freestyle. Cascone won the 100 butterfly and Polk won the 100 freestyle.
