The Lakewood Ranch High football team remained undefeated in Class 6A-12 with a 20-3 victory over Dixie Hollins Oct. 19.
The Mustangs took a 7-0 lead on a 20-yard touchdown run by Chris Pearcey with five minutes to play in the first quarter.
Lakewood extended its lead on Ty McLeod’s 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 38 seconds to play in the first quarter.
Holding on to a 14-3 lead at halftime, the Mustangs found the end zone on a 12-yard run by Wyatt McLeod with 3:30 remaining in the third quarter.
KJ Brown intercepted the ball in the end zone with 5:50 left in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory for the Mustangs. Wanley Desir had two interceptions and Brandon Luckett also picked off a Rebels pass.
Lakewood returns to district action Oct. 26 versus Largo in its Homecoming game. Both the Mustangs and Packers remain undefeated in district play.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
