The Braden River High girls volleyball team was without five of its players last night as the team continues to battle a case of the flu, but that didn't keep the Lady Pirates from defeating the Lady Hurricanes 3-1.
Several players stepped up to fill the void as Braden River beat Manatee 25-21, 18-25, 25-9 and 25-11 in non-district action.
Brittany Jaco had 14 kills; Kaleigh Jaco had nine blocks; and Kelly Sheils had 17 digs to lead the way for Braden River (8-2, 3-0 Class 4A-District 10).
The JV team was also victorious defeating Manatee 25-23, 25-9.
The Lady Pirates will hit the road for the eighth consecutive time tonight as they take on Dixie Hollins in St. Petersburg.
