The Lakewood Ranch High girls cross country team placed first out of 31 teams at the Mountain Dew Invitational Sept. 18 at the University of Florida Golf Course in Gainsville.
The Lady Mustangs earned 95 points, breezing past second-place finisher Winter Park with 108 points and third-place finisher Riverview (Sarasota) with 138 points. Lakewood has three individual medalists for finishing in the top 15. Top 15 finishers included Kristin Zarrella (9th) with a time of 19:55, Olivia Ortiz (13th) with a time of 20:25 and Devin McDermott (15th) with a time of 20:38.
Rounding out the top 5 scoring positions for Lakewood were Emily Wray (23rd) with a time of 21:06 and Ashley Platt (41st) with a time of 21:33.
The girls' next meet will be the North Port Invitational Sept. 26.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
