The Braden River High volleyball team opened its 2009 season victorious, defeating Sarasota in three straight sets tonight.
The Lady Pirates missed just three serves in three games to edge past the Lady Sailors 25-12, 25-23 and 25-22. Regina Aluise had 21 setting assists; Lauren Powell had eight kills and five aces; Brittany Jaco had seven kills; and Kelly Shiels had 13 digs to lead the Lady Pirates.
Braden River will return to action tomorrow night when the team travels to Sarasota Riverview. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
