Braden River High School Athletic Director Bob Bowling officially named Ed Volz as the Pirates new head football coach effective June 4.
Volz joined Braden River's coaching staff last year — where he assumed the roles of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. On April 30, Volz was named the Pirates interim head coach after the resignation of former coach Josh Hunter. In his first game at the helm, Volz watched the Pirates rack up nearly 400 yards of offense on their way to a 35-20 win over Riverview.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
