After a disappointing finish in the Class 3A state tennis tournament last year, Lakewood Ranch High junior Katherine Pyne finally has something to smile about.
Pyne defeated West Broward’s Christy Kung 6-3, 6-4 to capture the No. 2 singles title in the team portion of the state finals April 28 in Orlando. Pyne and freshman Cari Barry fell to Kung and Katalina Pineros 7-5, 6-4 in the semifinals at No. 1 doubles. The Lady Mustangs finished fifth overall with five points.
