The Cardinal Mooney High baseball team handed The Out-of-Door Academy its first district loss of the season with a 5-1 victory March 5.
Cougars pitcher Pat Heuler pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and five walks. Heuler also drew a pair of walks and scored two of Cardinal Mooney’s runs.
Austin Bingham came on in the bottom of the seventh inning and got ODA shortstop Jimmy Kuebler to ground into a double play.
Desmond Lindsay went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and a run scored to lead the way for ODA at the plate. Alex Horan pitched six innings for the Thunder, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks. Lindsay pitched the final inning, allowing one run on one hit and a walk while striking out three.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
