The Lakewood Ranch High softball team shut out rival Braden River 6-0 in Class 4A-District 10 action Feb. 19.
Huntyre Elling pitched a complete game for the Lady Mustangs, striking out six. Sarah Burnett went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles to lead the way for Lakewood at the plate. Rachel Slowik and Kayla Schappacher both doubled and Stacie Nelson, Jenn Trotter, Dana Hutchins and Taylor Newton all recorded an RBI.
Trisha Zuknick pitched five innings for Braden River, allowing four runs while striking our four and walking three. Hannah Loyer finished the game on the mound for the Lady Pirates, allowing two runs while striking out two and walking two. Courtney Mirabella and Nicole Tira both went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the way for Braden River.
Braden River returns to action at 7 p.m., tomorrow night at Manatee while Lakewood returns to action at 7 p.m., tomorrow night at Sarasota.

East County resident and local attorney Patricia Petruff, a senior partner of the Dye, Deitrich, Petruff & St. Paul law firm in Bradenton, has been awarded the 2014 William C. Grimes Award for Lifetime Achievement in Community Service.
