1 - The Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team captured its third straight district title Feb. 7 with a 53-46 victory against Bradenton Christian in the Class 3A-District 10 championship.
2 - The Lakewood Ranch High girls basketball team routed ninth-ranked Clearwater 77-47 in the Class 4A-Region 3 quarterfinals Feb. 6 to advance to the regional semifinals Feb. 11.
3 - The Out-of-Door Academy girls tennis team opened its season with a 7-0 victory against Shorecrest Prep Feb. 5.
4 - Southeast High wrestler Joey Fazio finished second in the 132-pound weight class at the Class 1A-Region 3 tournament Feb. 7 and Feb. 8 to earn a berth in the Class 1A FHSAA Finals Feb. 14 to Feb. 15.
5 - The Cardinal Mooney High girls tennis team defeated Riverview 4-3 Feb. 6.

East County resident and local attorney Patricia Petruff, a senior partner of the Dye, Deitrich, Petruff & St. Paul law firm in Bradenton, has been awarded the 2014 William C. Grimes Award for Lifetime Achievement in Community Service.
