Pair of East County lifters qualify for state meet

Braden River High weightlifter Sarah Weiss and Lakewood Ranch High weightlifter Amanda Johnson both finished third at the District 8 meet Jan. 25 at Port Charlotte.
Johnson (154 pounds) and Weiss (169) will now advance to the FHSSA Finals Feb. 9, at the Kissimmee Civic Center. The top three lifters in each weight class will compete in the state tournament.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
