The Braden River and Lakewood Ranch High girls weightlifting teams each had several lifters advance out of the Sub-District 8 Qualifier Jan. 9 at Palmetto High.
Braden River’s Sarah Weiss was the lone champion for the Lady Pirates, winning the 169-pound weight class. Michelle Tran (101), Cayton Christman (110), Demi-Shay Watchorn (129) and Linh Lyndsey Nhuyen (154) also advanced.
Lakewood Ranch crowned four champions, including Emily Perez (101), Riley Bohan (129), Theresa Sumunovic (139) and Amanda Johnson (154).
Jenn Trotter (139) also will advance for the Lady Mustangs.
The lifters will now move on to the District 8 meet Jan. 25 in Port Charlotte.
