Nolan Middle seventh-grader Rachel Elek took first place in a Farm City Week essay contest.
Elek’s winning essay about Ben King Produce in Myakka City was inspired by her visit to the farm, during which she gathered tomatoes and canned them for a fair project.
Elek received the honor during a recent luncheon hosted by the Women’s Club in Palmetto as part of Farm City Week.
