East County mom Betsy Krutzig will swing big this weekend by hosting her first charity golf tournament.
The event, held at 9 a.m. Oct. 14, at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, will be a four-player scramble with a shotgun start. Cost is $125 per golfer and includes greens fee and cart, gift bag, lunch and more. Non-golfers may attend for $35 per person.Proceeds from the event will go to the Julie’s Journey Foundation, a non-profit Krutzig started to raise awareness of the effects brain injuries have on victims. Kruzig’s daughter, Julie, was hospitalized one-and-a-half years ago with a brain injury and was not expected to live. After being in a coma for two months, she now is home and still recovering.
“I started the foundation, Julies Journey Inc., so that I could raise money for her medical needs, as well as work with medical facilities with families who have children with brain injuries and to give them hope,” Krutzig said.
