East County artist Malcolm Robertson installed his newest sculpture in Belfast last week.
The piece is inspired by the machines and rope-making techniques used in the world-famous Belfast Ropeworks. Titled “Let’s Twist Again,” the sculpture sits outside a newly built enterprise office building that has been built to provide communal office space for the currently divided community.
The stainless steel “twisted rope” section of the piece shows the various fiber strands coming together in a cohesive upward-reaching structure. An inscription on the piece reads, “By being bound together in a common cause, the natural tendency for each twisted fiber, yarn and strand to separate only serves to make the rope stronger.”
