The East County’s Manatee County FPS Club, comprising Southeast High students Brittany Wenger, Mackenzie Yaryura, Meg Rivera and Sarah Stevens, placed sixth out of 66 teams at the Future Problem Solving International Conference in June.
Their project, inspired by Mackenzie Yaryura’s 2009 trip to Belize, helped raise funds and school supplies for a non-profit high school there called Ocean Academy.
Connor Yaryura, an alternate, placed first in the Global Issues Problem Solving Alternate Competition; and the community problem-solving team (Mackenzie Yaryura, Rivera, Stevens and Julia Nordhausen) ranked fourth in the world in the Middle School Division in the education category.
