Alycia Bower, 18, president of ManaTEENs, will be honored with the Gold President’s Volunteer Service Award Feb. 18.
The award, recognizing Bower for her outstanding service in inspiring, mobilizing, and equipping volunteers in the community will be presented by Wendy Spencer, CEO of The Governor’s Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service.
Bower is serving her second term as ManaTEENs president. During her seven years of volunteer service, Bower has contributed more than 2,000 hours of service, mobilizing her peers to focus on animal welfare, disaster preparedness, environmental, health and human service issues in the community.
Bower is a senior at Braden River High School. She is the daughter of Vincent and Debra Bower and will attend the University of South Florida in the fall.

A frenzy of children, who sported pipe cleaner antennae on their heads and paper wings on their backs, filled the playground of All God’s Children Preschool April 23. The 11 students in Carol Beatty’s VPK class said goodbye to their new friends — the butterflies they have had in their classroom and for which they have cared since the insects were caterpillars — during butterfly release day.
ODA’s season ends in playoffs
The Out-of-Door Academy girls lacrosse team saw its season come to an end with a 13-10 loss to Tampa Catholic in the opening round of the playoffs April 22.
