Willis Elementary fifth-graders, in partnership with ShelterBox USA, raised more than $5,000 for Haiti relief through a campaign called High Five for Haiti.
The students wrote essays to encourage everyone in the school to donate $5. All funds collected will go toward buying Shelter Boxes that contain supplies for displaced Haitians.
The money will be enough to send five Shelter Boxes to Haiti.
Just a few miles away, Gullett Elementary students collected $2,246.82 during its own Hope for Haiti campaign.
Gullett collected money for the fundraiser the Manatee Education Foundation has organized through the American Red Cross.
