The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Bradenton held its second commencement ceremony June 7 at the Manatee Civic and Convention Center in Palmetto. The 161-member Class of 2009 received the doctor of osteopathic medicine degree.
Gullett celebrates Class of 2009

The cafeteria at Gullett Elementary School was decorated with silver and black balloons and stars June 3 in honor of the school’s graduating fifth grade class. Gullett administrators and staff celebrated student achievement, including perfect attendance, honor roll, safety patrol and other accomplishments, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., during the Fifth Grade Recognition Ceremony.

Witt students 'soar'

Students at Gene Witt Elementary School received kudos for service, outstanding effort, achievement and respect during a SOAR awards ceremony June 3 at the school. Also during the ceremony, Jamie Regan's class presented a check for $2,489.66 to Shelter Box USA. Students raised the money in just 10 days by wearing boxes around their necks.

Parents filled the cafeteria at Willis Elementary School Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the graduation of fifth grade students. Principal Bill Stenger and Assistant Principal Lynne Menard recognized students for perfect attendance and special academic achievement before presenting the children with graduation certificates.

The East County students — Laith Charles, Philip DiMaria, Luca Erozer, Ben Robinson, Bryan Robinson and Kate Schaufelberger — placed first in the Division III Column Structure competition.
State releases FCAT results

Although 2009 FCAT scores show mixed results, overall, East County students outperformed the state average in most areas, according to results released by the Florida Department of Education last week.
