Manatee schools receive $1.7 million grant

History education in Manatee County Public Schools received a substantial boost through a nearly $1.7 million grant from the federal government to fund a "Teaching American History Grant."

Zoo brings rainforest to Goddard

Children at The Goddard School in Lakewood Ranch got a first-hand look at rainforest animals during a special presentation Friday morning. Zoo Ventures instructor Ashley Hodges of the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa brought several animals to the East County preschool as the culmination of a weeklong study of Brazil.

Students at Primrose School in Lakewood Ranch celebrated the Fourth of July with an inspired Red, White and Blue Celebration this afternoon. The students made their own patriotic accessories and paraded around the campus grounds.

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
