Kiddie Academy students enjoyed green eggs and ham and other Dr. Seuss treats in celebration of the author's birthday March 2. Students also dressed up as Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Cat in the Hat and more.

Dozens of children, teens and adults hit the Lakewood Ranch pavement March 7 for the annual Take Stock in Children of Manatee County 10K Run/Walk and Fun Run. Participants enjoyed coffee, juice and donuts and other entertainment before hitting the streets. Superintendent Tim McGonegal served as the official Race Marshall.

The chilly evening didn't deter Lakewood Ranch High School students from spending the night at school for the second Campout for a Cause March 5. The event, which featured live music from several bands, raised money for Taking Back Lives, To Write Love in Her Arms, SOLVE Maternity Home, Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue, Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities and the Food Bank of Manatee.

More than 100 families hit the dance floor for Freedom Elementary School's annual Father/Daughter Dance Feb. 26 at the school. Dads and grandfathers boogied to a variety of tunes while colorful lighting and refreshments completed the atmosphere.

First-grade students at Braden River Elementary School dazzled other students, parents and teachers with their performance of "My Town, My World" Feb. 24. A public performance will be held at 7 p.m., Feb. 25 at the school, 6125 River Club Blvd.

District officials presented a check to the American Red Cross' Manatee County chapter at a meeting Feb. 22.
Members and guests of the Lakewood Ranch Women’s Club ventured Dec. 4 to Orlando, to view holiday decorations at the Grand Floridian and to have lunch at Downtown Disney.
The Play Readers of the Asolo Repertory Theatre Guild were in fine form as they entertained at the Art Association of Palm-Aire’s opening winter luncheon with “Fractured Fairy Tales.”
Catapulting into first place
Seven Manatee County elementary schools competed in the countywide Technology Student Association catapult competition Nov. 16, at Southeast High School. Students built the catapults on-site.
