Students from Nolan and Haile middle schools won accolades at the Florida State History Fair May 7-9 at Tallahassee Community College.
Mackenzie Yaryura, an eighth-grader at Nolan, won first place for Junior Individual Performance for “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina.” Haile eighth-grade Jackson Thomas won the Military History Prize for “John Paul Jones.”
Yaryura will represent the East County at National History Day this June in College Park, Md.
Other Manatee County participants included: Bridget Maltese, Emily Butler, Alec Bacon, Adam Droz, and Jamie Marchini (Lakewood Ranch High School); Alexis Szelwach, Hannah Hedgcock, Samantha Latimer, Hall Knox, Sienna Bonner, Mitchell Cobb, Ariana Czaia, Nicholas Fabre, Shelby Carollo, Matthew Boerner, Meredith Gardner, Sarah Tedesco and Atticus DeProspo (Bradenton Preparatory Academy); Brett Hiskes (Bradenton Christian School); Nicholas Contessa (Buffalo Creek Middle School); Juliette Dunbar (home-schooled); and Madison Chapman (Chapman Academy).
