After raising more than $15,000 at a recent walk-a-thon fundraiser, students at Gullett Elementary School joyously threw wet sponges at their teachers Thursday as a reward for their accomplishment.
Each class met its fundraising goal, qualifying students for the prized sponge-throwing event and helping them to surpass the school's original $10,000 goal.
Students also were eager to see the school's mascot, Chompy, on the roof, as well as Principal Kathy Hayes, as part of the reward, as well.

- Throwing sponges at their teachers? Really? How are teachers going to demand the respect and pay they deserve with that kind of behavior not only allowed but encouraged and cheered on. Shame on the administration for allowing it and shame on the teachers for accepting this as a reasonable reward for their students. Since when did teachers become the target, both literally and figuratively in this case, for such a show of disrespect for them personally and professionally?
