+ Good Samaritan on the way
Dear Editor:
On his way to work Nov. 26, my husband, Tim, left our subdivision on River Club Boulevard and turned onto Lakewood Ranch Boulevard. He noticed a young girl holding a small baby and a teenage boy standing by a broken-down car on the grass along the side of the road.
When he rolled down his window to ask if they needed help the girl replied, “Yes, we do. My car has a flat tire and my cell phone just went dead.”
When Tim asked if the teenage boy could help fix it she said, “No, that’s my brother, and he has autism.”
Tim pulled over to give them a hand and found out that the breakdown had more difficulties than just the tire.
As Tim was inspecting the car, the girl told him that a previous car had recently pulled up behind her and the man yelled profanities at them. The man then asked her if her phone worked and when she answered that it didn’t he replied, “Well I have a phone charger, but I’m not going to let you use it!” and drove off.
Tim felt bad for her. She didn’t look well off. She was not from the area, and she had just had the tire repaired the day before. He noticed the baby looking hot and he offered to drive the three of them to a destination to get out of the sun, and he let them use his phone.
My husband had had a busy day with his company, but I was proud that he took the time to help this young family. We were so disappointed at the first response she received from that other “non-Samaritan” that we hope she doesn’t feel that all of the Lakewood Ranch community is made up of rude people like that.
