This year’s Wimbledon was the first one Bud Collins had missed in 44 consecutive years. The longtime Longboat Key vacationer and tennis writer, announcer and fan fell at his hotel room last fall during the U.S. Open and ruptured his left quad tendon. Collins has undergone nine surgeries. He has seen many of the great and memorable matches but had to miss the Australian and French Opens and Wimbledon. Collins is hoping to attend the U.S. Open at the end of the summer and maybe even pick up playing the sport again.
