Dozens of children ages 6-13 showed off their dancing and theatrical skills during the Jump Dance Company's dance and musical theater camp July 12-16. Campers learned hip-hop and jazz routines, among others, and participated in singing, acting and dance classes. Jump Dance Company will host its camp through Aug. 21.

East County residents gathered at the Lucky Pelican Bistro July 17 to help raise funds for seabirds affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Jambalaya Bayou Bash featured a Cajun-themed buffet, live music and activities for children.

Lakewood Ranch’s newest community, Central Park, opened to the public today. Visitors enjoyed model home tours, complimentary popcorn and Hawaiian ice and other festivities. The grand-opening event will run through 5:30 p.m., today, and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., July 18.

Girls of all ages danced their hearts out at the Summer Dance Camp held at Gullett Elementary this month. The camp, which is led by dance instructor Michele Mercier, includes hip hop, ribbon dance, tumbling, jazz and Bollywood belly dancing. The last camp session is July 26-30.
