Port Manatee recently received nearly $1 million to pay for security upgrades.

The money, which was provided through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, will be used to buy energy-efficient hybrid security vehicles and enhance port security surveillance technology.

"This grant improves the port's ability to secure the assets and personnel of Port Manatee and its customers," said David McDonald, executive director of Port Manatee. "It reaffirms our commitment to be a leader in seaport security."
