A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy has been taken to the hospital after a vehicle ran a red light and struck her patrol car.
Dep. Josetta Coleman was traveling southbound on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard when she entered the intersection at State Road 70 on a green light, traveling about 15 mph.
Chad Lowe, 42, was driving eastbound on S.R. 70 at about 60 mph when he entered the intersection on a red light.
Coleman saw Lowe coming and tried to stop, but Lowe struck the push bumper on Coleman's vehicle, damaging the front end of her patrol car.
The impact pushed Coleman's vehicle back from the intersection and sent Lowe's vehicle into a spin. His car came to rest facing westbound in the westbound lane of travel at the eastern edge of the intersection.
Lowe was uninjured and had about $500 of damage to his vehicle, which he drove from the scene.
Coleman sustained multiple injuries and was transported to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Her vehicle sustained about $3,000 in damage and was towed from the scene.
Lowe was found at fault and issued multiple citations.
