+ Walk to defeat ALS Saturday
East County residents will rally to fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease during a walk this Saturday morning in Lakewood Ranch corporate park.
Registration for the event, called The Walk to Defeat ALS, begins at 8 a.m., May 9 at the Magnolia Green Office Building. The 2.3-mile walk starts at 9 a.m.

+ Tara students hit stage
Students from Tara Elementary School took the spotlight Thursday night during the school’s annual talent show.
The event, which was held from 6-8 p.m., at the school, featured musical, dance and other performances by students.
+ Gullett hosts Power Hour
Gullett Elementary School hosted its Power Hour session last night, recognizing students at Lakewood Ranch High School who have volunteered their time to tutor Gullett students in reading.
The after-school program is funded through a grant from the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund.
Students who reported significant reading gains and who received scholarships were also recognized at the event.

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
