LAKEWOOD RANCH — Coastal Orthopedics & Pain Management took a major step east as it celebrated the grand opening of its new East Surgery Center April 16 in Lakewood Ranch.
The new 10,000-square-foot center will offer outpatient options for pain management patients beginning in mid-May and orthopedic patients by July, said Coastal Marketing and Community Relations Manager Sara Gaines.
With facilities at Point West Medical Plaza in west Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, Axcess Diagnostics on State Road 64 and satellite offices in Sarasota and Sun City Center, Coastal treats patients from Tampa to south Sarasota. Currently, Coastal conducts all its outpatient surgical procedures at its Point West location, but with its proximity to Interstate 75, officials expect the new Ranch location to become Coastal’s primary outpatient surgery center.
“Our other surgery center is all the way out in (west) Bradenton,” said Dr. Greg Farino, president of Coastals surgery centers and orthopedic surgeon. “We’ve wanted to do something out here for a long time.”
Zirkelbach Construction completed the build-out of the new center in about six-and-one-half months, outfitting it with the latest medical technology and amenities — such as wide hallways and electric doors — Coastal’s Point West Medical Plaza’s facility lacks. The facility also features separate entry and exit doors, large, open pre-op and post-op wards and state-of-the-art operating rooms.
And unlike the Point West center, the East Surgery Center has room to grow, said Coastal Administrator Cindy Brennan, who worked with Zirkelbach on the center’s design and even selected its wall colors and office furniture.
Ten surgeons, five physicians and one podiatrist — some from Coastal’s other offices — will provide medical care at the new center, which also will create about 30 new staffing positions, Gaines said.
